Ho Hum

Well, for a change, there's not much going on around the Massey household these days. It seems that Owen must be having a growth spurt, as he is wanting to eat pretty much every 2 hours again. Consequently, that means less sleep at night, and near lassitude during the day. Maybe that's why it seems not much has happened this week. The camera has not been active this week, so we had to pull out a couple of photos from last week. Owen's doing well. He turned 3 months old on Wednesday. He really likes to talk to us now. Of course it's mostly "gee's" and "pppp's", accompanied with a fair amount of spit bubbles, but he really likes to go back and forth with us making those noises. He smiles a lot, though he can get grumpy when his sleep schedule is thrown off. Ok, here is a picture of Owen with Mommy and another of him during some "tummy time".

An Eventful Weekend

Owen had a much better week since the return from Greenville. I'm sure that Cara would agree, though it seems like his sleep is a bit more disruptive than it previously was, as he's waking about every 2 hours to eat. Anyway, he's not had nearly as many tantrums, but it looks like the "Buckin' Buddy" (where he throws his head back while being held upright) is officially added to his ever-growing repertoire of moves. For the most part, it seems to be a pretty good indicator that it's time for a nap, but I know the day is coming when he makes it into the "Watch Mommy and Daddy Catch Me" game, which will, of course, be tons of fun.

Though we didn't get out of town this weekend, Owen did have some visitors (emphasis on OWEN had visitors), as Papa and JuJu flew in from Austin on Thursday night and left earlier today. It was nice to have visitors again. We had a good time, and Owen got lots of attention (like that's ever a problem anyway). We tried to take it easy on Owen and mostly stayed around the house, especially since the weather wasn't too good, but we did manage to get him downtown for some lunch. He did so great with it! He sat in his car seat for a while, and when he started to get fussy, he spent the rest of the meal perched looking over my shoulder out the window at the passers-by. He just hung out quietly, watching back and forth as people and cars traveled along Meeting Street. He's been doing really well in general with getting out these days. The key is that he needs to be well-rested, and I think that was the big problem with our Greenville trip. His sleep got all messed up, and he didn't enjoy getting out too much.

Ok, I'll get on to the pictures. I know you all come here for that anyway, but before I let you go, one final anecdote from this weekend. Cara and I have been working diligently to help Owen form good sleep habits, and part of that is to make sure that we put him to bed before he actually falls asleep. In the compulsiveness of it all, I had forgotten how nice and sweet it was for him to just fall asleep in your arms. I broke the rules this weekend and let him have a nap on me in the rocking chair. It was so great; it took me back to those first few weeks of his life when that was the only place he would sleep (in someone's arms). Man, he's growing fast. Ok, here's a couple of pictures.

Cara has a strong desire to dress our child up like an animal. Here he is before the trip downtown sporting a pair of ears on his hat. Not sure what he was suppose to be; maybe a bear?

THE VERDICT IS IN

Owen officially looks more like Brian (as if we all did not already know it)!!!

Greenville last weekend was interesting. Owen had a really hard time adjusting to the traveling, therefore he screamed most of the trip. In the end, it was still nice to get away. I also have discovered recently that my feet grew one half of a size during this whole pregnancy/delivery thing. I kept thinking all this time that my feet still might be slightly swollen but hardly any of my shoes fit. I am finally realizing that there is not way I am still that swollen! I guess my shoe size is one of the last things on my mind these days.

Belated Birthday Shout Out

For those of you that did not know... last weekend was Brian's 30th birthday! First, we celebrated by going on our first date since Owen was born. Our wonderful friend Lauren came over Saturday night and kept Owen so I could take Brian to his favorite restaurant and to see a movie (Juno). Then, on Sunday night we went and ate the best burgers in Charleston with a group of friends. All in all, I think he had a great birthday (I had fun and it wasn't even my birthday).
This weekend we are headed to Greenville, South Carolina again for Brian's work. Owen and I are going to explore the downtown area of the town this time so I will let everyone know how it goes. Otherwise, not much is going on in the Massey household. However, we are looking forward to my parents visting next week!
