Crawlin' Away

Before daycare this morning Owen began to crawl! Brian and I were playing with him on the bed and we got really excited but we were not sure if he was really beginning to crawl. Then when I picked him up at daycare today they confirmed it! He is so cute propelling himself forward! For over a month now he's been in a 4-point stance, just rocking back and forth. For a couple of weeks he's been moving one arm forward, or one leg forward, but he didn't have quite coordinated yet. Then, this morning he saw put it together and was able to move himself forward. He's not quite got it all together, as he'll move a couple of strides and then fall over. He's really cute doing it. He knows he's doing something great, because he has the biggest smile on his face. We don't have any pictures of the event, but did get some video footage. Here are a couple of recent photos from Owen in his bath and then the post-bath routine. He loves his little duck and fish that join him in the bathtub. After he gets out of the tub, we dry him and put a diaper on him, and the he and Brian sit at the desk and listen to music. Brian leans back in the chair and Owen sits on his chest and just rolls around checking out everything. They both love it. And, finally, we had to lower Owen's crib tonight as he is now pulling to a stand in it.

Crazy Times

I just realized today that it has been almost 2 weeks since Brian or I have blogged. Since then, many things have been going on in the Massey household. I started my job, Owen started daycare, and both of us have already been sick. Things are definitely crazy right now as our family is working out our new schedule and responsibilities.
I love my job and it feels good to finally be working in the field I have been going to school for so long! The hard part was having to start Owen in daycare to be able to work. At first, he had a really hard time, mainly because he couldn't sleep with all of the new stimuli. Now, he is already doing well and seems to enjoy the other children.
So, things are working out so far and will only get better! We have been so busy that we realized we have not been taking pictures as much either. I will have to catch up this weekend for the next post!

A Few New Moves

Owen really enjoys spending time in his pack-n-play, where he has his favorite toys to play with (mostly by chewing on them). A few weeks ago he showed us a new trick. He made his way into a 4-point stance, and he was so proud of himself. Of course we cheered him on, and he loved it. A couple of days later, he was spending more and more time in this position, and he started doing another new thing. While in the stance, he now rocks back and forth. It seems like he's just so excited to be on the move he can hardly stand it. He has the biggest smile when he's doing his rocking. While in his pack-n-play, Owen also likes to check from time to time that we are still in the room. He'll peek over the top of the rail, and then will get back to playing. Recently he's become more exploratory, grabbing the rail, and eventually partially pulling himself up on it. It won't be long before we have to lower the mattress pad so that he doesn't climb out. Here's some pictures of all his new things.

Baby Blinker

For those of you who know me pretty well, you know that I am a chronic blinker in pictures. My Mom said that it started when I was really young and that she could never take me to a studio to get my picture taken because my eyes would be closed in every picture. Having my picture taken with a flash physically hurts my eyes, and I secretly hate it. I found some cameras that have a great red eye flash that really helps, but all flashes still cause me to see blackness and then stars for a few seconds afterwards.
Today I realized that might also be the case for Owen. He was playing on his blanket on the floor and I got my camera out to take pictures of him. He immediately looked up at me and squinted his eyes like "Oh no, another picture!" Poor guy! I guess we'll be mostly taking pictures with the flash off now.

Movin' and Groovin'

Since Owen turned 6 months old he is really changing and moving around more. Here are some of his new moves:
Sitting up in his pack n' play (he looks so startled because he is not really sure why Brian and I are cheering for him). This is also a huge accomplishment for our family. Until recently Owen would squeal at me in frustration for making him sit. He loves to stand and have me hold him.

Playing while pushed up on one hand. He loves his porcupine!!!Sitting up and eating his washcloth in the bath.
Lounging in his swing.
