Some Firsts
Owen has had a few firsts this week that have been really exciting for Brian and I.
1. Owen can now sit up by himself briefly while propped up on his hands. He really hates doing this and would rather stand with assistance, but we practice anyway so he will learn to sit on his own.
2. He went all the way under water in swim lessons and tolerated it really well. We have 4 swim lessons left in the spring to perfect his new skill.
3. Owen laughed out loud (more than a giggle) when we were playing a peek-a-boo type game.
Before having Owen, I would have never realized the joy you experience in these "new" moments. It is so much fun being a mother!

When The Cat's Away...
Cara is away this evening, so the boys are left here to rule the house. What better thing to do than mess with mom's blog? Admittedly, this post is mostly self-serving, as I'm needing some more pictures to look at. But, I guess you wouldn't complain if I put up something new, right? These are pictures from this weekend. I was off from work, so I got to spend the day with Cara and Owen. It was really great. There were so many things that Owen is doing these days that I didn't even realize, as most days he's asleep when I leave and when I get home. Cara fills me in on the days events, but there's just something about seeing him do it in person. Anyway, he's becoming an avid swimmer, and luckily the wellness center has "Family Swim Time" on Sundays, so we got to enjoy that as a family this weekend. Here's a great picture of Cara and Owen in the pool. Aren't they both beautiful? He did really well and seemed to enjoy it. The next picture is actually from Friday, but it reminds me of him from last night. He hadn't really slept well most of the day, and we were sure that after an outing to the pool and back he would be ready to sleep for the night. After about 15 minutes or so of occasional coos and toots, I peaked my head in to see him quite alert and looking just like the second picture. I couldn't help but laugh. The final picture is from Saturday as we were getting ready for the A&M basketball game. He wore the jacket and hat that Grammy made for him. Ok, turning controls back over to the momma cat now.

Just a Swimmin'
Yesterday we went to Owen's second swim lesson. This time there were 11 moms and their children in the class with us. There were many boys and girls and there was also a 3 month-old boy swimming with us. I was glad to see I am not the only crazy mother that takes their child in the water at such a young age!
Owen loved the class even more this time. He did not fuss once and he seemed to be more accustomed to the cold water. This weekend Brian and I are thinking about taking him up to the pool for family swim time on Sunday. Our goal is for Owen to be ready for the beach this summer. It is our last summer in Charleston and I am determined to make the most of it!
I have also been taking Owen to the nursery at the same facility (as the pool) so I can work out. I was very nervous taking him to a daycare environment at such a young age but he has been doing really well. This week I discovered that if I take him in the afternoons he is the only child in the nursery with three ladies to take care of him!
